Institut Joncar

Institut Joncar is a public secondary education center located in Barcelona, in the Sant Martí district. It offers compulsory secondary education (ESO) and Bachillerato (upper secondary, ages 16–18), with Spanish and Catalan as the working languages. The center has a cafeteria and secretarial services, has its own school calendar, and publishes information about the textbooks for the two levels it offers. It is located near the metro stops Poblenou, Llacuna, and Selva de Mar.

Throughout the school year, students participate in various activities outside the classroom: camps in Rialp for 3rd year ESO, visits to the Museu d'Història de Catalunya, CosmoCaixa, and archaeology workshops on the UAB campus. The institute develops solidarity and learning projects around poverty and human rights, and participates in literary competitions and reading aloud events. Music also plays a role in the life of the center, with student performances in the En Directe program of the Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona, and the welcome classroom produces its own podcast.

In the area of guidance, the center organizes sessions for students finishing ESO about the options available from that point onward, and former students share their paths with high school students after leaving the institute. Additionally, the center collaborates with international volunteers who assist students in English classes.
