Las Americas

IES Las Américas is a public secondary education and Bachillerato institute located in Parla. It offers the stages of secondary education and Bachillerato, and is the only center in Parla and its surroundings that provides the modality of Bachillerato in Plastic Arts, Image, and Design. The center was established in 2001.

Since its inception, the institute has developed activities aimed at improving school coexistence, coordinated by specific teaching staff and with the participation of families, administrative and service personnel, and students. These actions address attention to diversity, welcome protocols, mediation, restorative practices, and dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts. The center summarizes this line of work in the motto that presides over its lobby, "Here we all fit."

Among its projects are a school garden, a theater group, Mascarándula, which has received recognition at the Community of Madrid School Theater Competition, and an intervention project in the playgrounds developed in collaboration with Madridbordesur and with first-year Bachillerato Arts students. The institute has a nursing service that provides first aid for accidents or common illnesses, attends to students with specific care needs due to chronic illnesses, and develops health education activities with the teaching staff; the administration of medication requires a prescription and medical report, signed consent from legal guardians, and the medication in its original packaging. The center also has a virtual classroom and the educational platforms of the Community of Madrid for communication with families and academic management, and offers extracurricular activities.
