Gerardo Diego

CEIP Gerardo Diego is a public school in Parla (Madrid), located in the northwest outskirts of the town, next to the A-42 and in a neighborhood surrounded by urbanized land with new housing. It shares its environment with a public parking lot and the municipal sports center Nido II, facilities that students use in some Physical Education sessions. It offers the second cycle of Early Childhood Education (3-6 years) and Primary Education (6-12 years).

The educational project of the center is structured around promoting values such as mutual respect —supported by cooperation, pacifism, tolerance, and solidarity— dialogue as a tool to prevent and resolve conflicts peacefully, and reflection, critical thinking, interest in knowledge, effort, and personal autonomy. The educational work seeks for students to discover and develop their physical, intellectual, and emotional possibilities, accept their own abilities and limitations, and build self-esteem that favors their adaptation to society. Equality of rights and opportunities between men and women and the prevention of gender violence are promoted, and education is understood as a shared effort that encourages family participation through the School Council and the AMPA.

Among its lines of action are the systematic work on social skills, self-control, emotional education, and conflict prevention and management; the acquisition and development of competencies; the promotion of autonomy and responsibility; attention to diversity with an intercultural perspective and support for students with special educational needs, along with compensating for inequalities in education; the promotion of reading and writing competence and reading habits; education for sustainability; the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits; and the evaluation and self-evaluation of teaching-learning processes. The center is recognized as a Sustainable School by the Community of Madrid.
