The Juan Ramón Jiménez Cooperative School is a semi-private center with over forty years of experience that offers early childhood education, primary education, and compulsory secondary education (ESO), with thirteen levels from 1st of early childhood education (3 years) to 4th of ESO (16 years). It is located in a rural area, at the foot of the Bandama mountain, in the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and it serves students from nearby areas as well as from other parts of the island.
The educational project of the center places students as active protagonists of their learning. The teaching-learning process is based on research, exploration, and discovery learning, both inside and outside the classroom, with visits to the environment to experience and put into practice what has been worked on. Project-based learning constitutes the vertical axis of the center. Among the priority axes are integral development, emotional education and values, individualized attention, knowledge of foreign languages, physical activity and healthy habits, and progressive immersion in the use of information and communication technologies. Families are considered an indispensable part of the project, so joint activities are encouraged. The center declares itself non-confessional, pluralistic, and democratic, and educates in Canarian identity and culture, respect for the environment, recycling, health education, education for peace, and co-education. Spanish is the first language of learning, and the center seeks for students to achieve practical and communicative knowledge of other languages before completing ESO.
Regarding services, it has a school cafeteria with its own kitchen: the menus are prepared entirely at the school, with local suppliers prioritizing local and fresh products, and are supervised by a nutritionist who takes into account students' intolerances and allergies. A wide range of extracurricular activities is offered, as well as early reception service and extended hours outside of school hours to facilitate the reconciliation of family and work life. The center also has several transport routes, managed jointly with The American School of Las Palmas. Uniforms are not used, although there is a sports outfit that is recommended for activities carried out outside the center.
