Escola El Morrot is a public center for Early Childhood and Primary Education that started operating in September 2007. It is located in the Morrot neighborhood, at the foot of the Montsacopa volcano, overlooking the mountains surrounding the city of Olot. Catalan is the main language of the center, also in administration, notices, and communications. Oral Spanish is introduced in the initial cycle and written Spanish in the middle cycle, while English is introduced orally in I3 and worked on in writing from the middle cycle onwards. The center has two classes in I3 and I4 and a single class from I5 to sixth grade of Primary.
The building is distributed over several floors and includes a library, dining room, gym, computer room, music room, science room, plastic expression room, and a symbolic play area, as well as the Espai Catau (Special Education classroom) and the Espai SIE (intensive support for inclusive schooling). It has two playgrounds: one for early childhood education, with a porch area, playground, and sandpit, and one for primary education, with a porch, courts, stands, and a sand area.
The center works from a constructivist conception of learning, based on experimentation, manipulation, and discovery. Among its proposals are the Ràdio Morrotina radio workshop, conducted by students from the upper cycle, the "Els Volcans" project in Early Childhood Education, robotics, mathematical resources, and the "Fem salut" project. The school defines itself as Catalan, coeducational and non-sexist, dialogical, participatory, democratic, supportive and tolerant, intercultural, attentive to diversity, active and innovative, non-confessional and respectful of the environment, and guarantees the late incorporation of students who enroll after the stage has begun.
