Cascanueces

Cascanueces Preschool is a public center located in Getafe, in the Community of Madrid, that offers the second cycle of Early Childhood Education for ages 3 to 6. Its educational project is based on active pedagogies: experiences stem from what students observe, feel, and intuit, and projects are developed according to their discoveries and interests. Play is conceived as a pathway and engine of learning, in spaces designed for children to choose what to investigate and create. The prepared environments support neurodevelopment, stimulating sensory, motor, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Pedagogical documentation is used as a research tool and as a communication bridge with families. The center declares diversity and inclusion as values and maintains that each child has their own rhythm and way of expressing themselves.

The center has a library and a reading plan aimed at awakening a love for books before learning to read, through sensory experiences, play, and exploration. Among its objectives are to foster early reading habits, enhance language and communication through reading aloud and storytelling, convey values such as respect, tolerance, solidarity, and equality, and involve families in the reading experience. The reading plan, the library, and the center's newspaper share the purpose of enhancing reading comprehension and interest in reading, promoting the everyday use of the library for consultation, research, cooperative work, and lending, and fostering a reflective and critical attitude towards the environment.
