Escola Joaquim Cusí I Furtunet

Escola Joaquim Cusí i Furtunet is a public center in Figueres that offers the second cycle of Early Childhood Education (3-6 years) and Primary Education (6-12 years). Its project revolves around an idea expressed by the center itself: to build a school where every child matters, every voice counts, and diversity helps the community grow.

The center was inaugurated in 1976 in Figueres under the name Joaquim Cusí i Furtunet, in homage to this pharmacist from Alt Empordà, known for creating an eye ointment he named Pomada Oftàlmica Cusí, which, due to its success, was manufactured in industrial quantities. Two years later, the school expanded within the same premises with a building dedicated to Early Childhood Education.

During the school year in which this information is collected, the school celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, half a century of educational activity and presence in the life of the neighborhood and several generations. For this occasion, a series of commemorative activities are organized between late May and mid-June. Among them, the students took a tour of Figueres, were received at the Town Hall, and held a meeting in Parc Bosc.
