School admission in the Comunitat Valenciana: scoring and deadlines

School admission in the Comunitat Valenciana applies to schools funded with public money, that is, public schools and publicly funded private schools. The latest call published in the sources received is for the 2026-2027 school year; the dates are presented here as a reference for that call. To see the places available, you can consult the catalog of schools in València.

Which students take part in admission

According to Order 8/2024, the allocation of school places is carried out through open competition, without prejudice to reserved quotas and established preferences. Places are assigned to the applications with the highest score at each requested school, following the order indicated by the family in the application.

The procedure affects those applying for a place at publicly funded schools. The Resolution of 25 February 2026 sets separate calendars for Early Childhood and Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education and Bachillerato, both in the ordinary phase and in the extraordinary phase.

How the application is submitted

According to Order 8/2024, the application must be submitted within the period established by the admission calendar for each school year. During the application period, more than one version may be submitted, but only the last confirmed version is considered submitted.

Once the submission period has ended, Order 8/2024 establishes that the application cannot be modified, because the process is carried out in competition with the rest of the applicants. The management of public schools and the owners of publicly funded private schools validate online applications and assign points for criteria that cannot be verified automatically.

Stages of the process

Ordinary phase

The ordinary phase includes the publication of vacancies, the submission of applications, scoring, provisional results, appeals, final results and enrollment. According to Order 8/2024, vacancies are published at different times during the procedure: initial, provisional and final.

Extraordinary phase

According to Order 8/2024, the extraordinary phase includes the submission of applications, notification of assigned places and enrollment with supporting documentation. The Resolution of 25 February 2026 specifies these actions for the 2026-2027 school year.

Waiting lists and later vacancies

Decree 48/2024 and Order 8/2024 establish that vacancies left unassigned once enrollment has finished are offered to students who appear on the list of students admitted to another school or without an assigned school place, according to the order of the score obtained. Vacancies arising from withdrawal, leaving school or other circumstances are also offered.

Scoring criteria and points

Decree 48/2024 establishes that, when there are not enough places, scored admission criteria are applied. According to article 84.2 of Organic Law 2/2006, cited by the decree, no priority criterion may be exclusionary in nature or account for more than 30% of the total maximum score.

  • Brothers or sisters at the school: Decree 48/2024 assigns 15 points for each brother or sister enrolled at the requested school. The same treatment applies to family members through foster care or guardianship for adoption purposes.
  • Proximity of the family or work address: Decree 48/2024 assigns 10 points if the family or work address is in the school’s catchment area, and 5 points if it is in bordering areas.
  • Annual per capita income: Decree 48/2024 scores income with 7 points if it is equal to or below half of the IPREM; 6 points if it is above half of the IPREM and equal to or below the IPREM; 5 points if it is above the IPREM and equal to or below the result of multiplying the IPREM by 1.5; and 4 points if it is above that result and equal to or below the result of multiplying the IPREM by 2.
  • Valencian inclusion income: Decree 48/2024 assigns 7 points for being a recipient of the Valencian inclusion income.
  • Legal guardians working at the school: Decree 48/2024 assigns 7 points when one or both legal guardians are actively employed at the school.

  • Disability of legal guardians, brothers or sisters: Decree 48/2024 assigns 3 points when the disability is between 33% and 64%, and 5 points when it is equal to or above 65%, for each person for whom this circumstance applies.
  • Status as an elite, high-level or high-performance athlete: Decree 48/2024 assigns 2 points in the cases provided for.

Bachillerato

According to Order 8/2024, academic results are taken into account for access to Bachillerato. To the score obtained from the general criteria is added the average grade from Compulsory Secondary Education or, where applicable, from an intermediate vocational training cycle.

Tie-breakers

Decree 48/2024 establishes that ties are resolved by successively applying the highest score obtained in the criteria indicated by the regulation. If the tie remains after applying the tie-breaking criteria, the Resolution of 25 February 2026 provides for a public draw in accordance with the instructions to be determined.

Documentation and accreditation

Decree 48/2024 indicates that the application includes a responsible declaration regarding the circumstances claimed. Supporting documentation must be provided within the period and in the manner established by the education administration for each school year.

  • Household income: according to Order 8/2024, to obtain points for income it is essential to authorize the education administration to consult the data through the Spanish State Tax Administration Agency.
  • Valencian inclusion income: according to Order 8/2024, it is also essential to authorize verification through the department responsible for this matter.
  • Bachillerato: according to Order 8/2024, the academic certificate is issued by the school where the student completed the final year of the corresponding studies.
  • Claimed circumstances: the Resolution of 25 February 2026 provides that, in certain cases, a circumstance may be scored provisionally by means of a responsible declaration, subject to later documentary proof at enrollment.
