Llar D'infants El Tren Petit

The municipal nursery El Tren Petit is a public center for the first cycle of early childhood education (0-3 years) located in La Bisbal d'Empordà. It is owned by the City Council. It serves boys and girls organized into groups by homogeneous ages: from 4 months to 1 year, from 1 to 2 years, and from 2 to 3 years, following the ratios set by the competent department in education of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It has a dining service and its own kitchen, where menus are prepared daily. The opening hours are from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In its educational project, the center focuses on motor development during the early years. It is based on trust in children's abilities and freedom of action, both in manipulating objects and exploring spaces and materials, so they can master their own bodies. Play is one of the elements they use for exploration. The educators' work centers on accompaniment: their presence and respectful attitude help create a bond of security with the little ones. They prepare thoughtful spaces for children to move freely and discover interests in materials and educational proposals, respecting their own pace and without directing their steps. It is based on the idea that children are the protagonists of what they learn and discover. It aims for educational continuity between daily routines, spontaneous play, and activities led by teaching staff. Educational activity includes all actions carried out in the school; meals, diaper changes, naps, or preparation for outings are also activities with great educational potential.

The building, of unique construction, was built in 1989 and expanded in 2006. It has two floors without architectural barriers, and access is via ramps at street level. It has ten classrooms with their corresponding hygiene areas; four of them share a bedroom and accommodate babies and the youngest ones up to one year old. There is also a multipurpose classroom. Outside, it has three terraces and three playgrounds. Among other facilities, it has its own kitchen, dining room, educators' room, and director's office. It is located near the primary care center and Torre Maria.
