Escola De Dansa Anna Maleras

The Escola de Dansa Anna Maleras is a private dance education center in Barcelona, in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, authorized by the Generalitat de Catalunya. It was founded in 1967 by Anna Maleras, a qualified teacher from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, and has accumulated more than fifty years of activity. Since its inception, it has incorporated disciplines such as jazz dance, modern dance, and contemporary dance, and has acted as a platform for welcoming new techniques and new teachers.

The center has a team of 14 teachers and offers 11 disciplines. Among them are floor barre, tap, classical, contemporary, hip-hop, yoga, jazz, and dance for children. Classes are organized at different levels based on the objectives and prior knowledge of the students: tap is offered as an introductory course open to adults with no prior knowledge, aimed at both professional and recreational purposes, while classical dance focuses its technical-training program on establishing the foundations for future dance professionals. The facilities include a computer room, and the center also offers rental of its studio.

Anna Maleras, a pioneer of modern dance and jazz in Catalonia, created the Grup Estudi Anna Maleras in 1972, which was active for seventeen years until its dissolution in 1989. She has organized international dance workshops in Palma de Mallorca, Begur, Sitges, Vilanova i la Geltrú, and at the Institut del Teatre, and was part of the ballet company of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Her approach at the helm of the school, along with the team of teachers, is to impart sufficient knowledge to foster a love for dance, create an enthusiastic audience, and train professionals.
