The Swedish International School, formerly known as the Scandinavian International School, is a private center located in Alcobendas (Madrid), in one of the greenest areas of the city. Founded in 1944, it maintains both a Scandinavian and an international approach and has two sections: the Scandinavian section, which follows the Swedish curriculum and teaches in Swedish, and the International section, which offers the Cambridge program in English. Both sections cover early childhood education, primary education, compulsory secondary education (ESO), and Bachillerato (upper secondary, ages 16–18). In addition to Swedish and English, the center also teaches Spanish and French.
It is a small school, with about 400 students, featuring small classes that allow for personalized teaching and a high density of teachers. It is characterized by close ties between students, staff, and families, and by great diversity, with students and teachers coming from numerous countries. Its pedagogy combines internationally successful educational methods with Scandinavian values, promoting critical thinking and the expression of opinions, with the goal of allowing each student to grow at their own pace. The center has a musical profile, which contributes to cohesion among students and staff, and is owned by a non-profit association formed by the families. It accepts applications throughout the academic year and offers places continuously.
