Ceip Rafael Altamira

CEIP Rafael Altamira is a public center for Early Childhood and Primary Education located in Alicante, in the San Blas-Santo Domingo district. It provides education from 3-year-old Kindergarten to 6th grade of Primary, with two lines per level. Specifically, it has six units of Early Childhood Education (3-5 years), twelve units of Primary Education (6-11 years), and one unit of Special Education.

In addition to the common specialties found in all centers (Early Childhood, Primary, Music, Therapeutic Pedagogy, Physical Education, and English Language), the center has Hearing and Language services, a physiotherapist, and two educators. In the Early Childhood stage, English, Music, and Psychomotricity are taught. In Primary, Physical Education uses English as the vehicular language from 2nd to 6th grade. The linguistic project of the center establishes for Early Childhood a 60% Spanish, a 30% Valencian, and a 10% English; and for Primary, a 50% Spanish, a 30% Valencian, and a 22% English.

Regarding methodological lines, a flexible methodology is applied in Early Childhood, robotics for all students, manipulative mathematics in the early grades, a communicative approach to languages, weekly tutoring to work on emotional intelligence, and project-based learning in scientific areas. The center develops other initiatives: revitalization of the schoolyard (with board games, climbing wall, music area, reading area, and traditional games), reading mentorship (older students read stories to younger ones outdoors), school radio (with recording and publication of original content such as riddles, songs, and poems), reinforcement in reading and writing for 1st and 2nd grades, school garden, and sessions to improve oral expression in English in 5th and 6th grades. It offers dining services, extracurricular activities, and morning school. It also has a Special Education classroom and projects such as the Educational Project of the Center (PEC), the Equality and Coexistence Plan, and the Tutorial Action Plan (PAT).
