Los Cerros Chicos

Los Cerros Chicos is a public school in San Martín de la Vega that offers early childhood education (second cycle) and primary education, with a single line. It is a small center, which, according to its own project, allows for a closer understanding of the particularities of each student. Teaching is supported by active methodologies and without textbooks, both in early childhood and primary education, and is organized by corners and centers of interest from early childhood to sixth grade. Among the practices applied are cooperative work structures within the corners, splits and flexible groups to personalize teaching, workshops to work on specific content, and interactive groups with families when the teaching staff considers it appropriate. For mathematics, it uses the ABN method, and also has a competency improvement plan in English language and a plan to enhance playground activities.

The center supports the integration of students with a flexible adaptation period, allowing families to stay with the student for as long as deemed necessary, and takes care of the transition between early childhood and primary education by maintaining a similar work structure to make the change less abrupt. Among the services available for families are the school cafeteria, with hours from 2 PM to 4 PM, and breakfasts starting from seven in the morning. It has a psychopedagogical guidance service through the EOEP, aimed at attending to students with special educational needs and high abilities, and offers a free school accompaniment program from the Community of Madrid to reinforce content in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades of primary education. Extracurricular activities, organized in collaboration with the AMPA and offered until 5 PM, include a daily playroom service from 4 PM to 5 PM, pre-sports on Mondays and Wednesdays, and chess on Fridays.
