Escola Joan Torredemer Canela

Escola Joan Torredemer Canela is a public center for early childhood and primary education in Matadepera. It provides early childhood education (first and second cycle) and primary education, with Catalan, Spanish, and English as languages present in teaching. It offers a school cafeteria service and extracurricular activities, as well as a library and outdoor spaces such as the early childhood playground and a motor skills play structure for primary education.

The center works on projects and places significant emphasis on the scientific method, understood as a tool to awaken curiosity and critical thinking in students through observation, hypothesis formulation, experimentation, and result analysis. In the upper cycle, the Missió Alba project is developed, and in early childhood and primary, research challenges are proposed, such as studying invertebrate animals or the scientific challenge of dyeing water from natural elements, which began after a trip to LAB0-6 in Manresa. The library is conceived as the heart of the school and as a learning engine, with a specific push for promoting reading. Projects that connect learning with social reality are also carried out, such as work around the Sustainable Development Goals.

The AFA participates in the life of the center and organizes activities and celebrations aimed at growing the educational community. Among the initiatives included are the AFA party, the celebration of Santa Cecília with concerts featuring primary students, the Setmana Lila around 8M, and the activities of Carnestoltes.
