About the school

The Virgen de la Esperanza center develops the school garden project known as El Huerto de la Esperanza, linked to environmental education and direct work in cultivation. In the garden, located in the courtyard, students participate in the planting and harvesting of vegetables. From this activity, the center has launched a cooking workshop called "Yo me lo guiso," where students create recipes with the harvested products. The process includes researching and writing the recipe, purchasing ingredients that do not come from the garden, jointly preparing the dishes, and a final tasting. Each student creates a recipe book to take home. Among the prepared recipes are beet salad, broad bean and pea pâté, sandwich with garden lettuces, and zucchini cream.

A botanical garden has also been created in an area with trees at the end of the courtyard, as part of the workshop known as Naturateca. Activities focus on identifying species of trees and plants, creating a tree nursery, constructing the entrance path to the garden, and producing materials such as a map of the green areas of the center and signs with the names of the path and the garden, in addition to planting trees to delineate the path. The project has included visits from two experts in gardens, relatives of a teacher at the center, who shared with students and teachers how to treat the soil and how to carry out planting, through tutorials organized by plots and classes. The first plot to produce was the PTVAL hospitality garden, whose students planted and harvested radishes.
