About the school

CEIP María Zambrano is a public school located in the Macarena district of Sevilla. It offers the second cycle of Early Childhood Education (3-6 years) and Primary Education (6-12 years). Among its facilities, it has a school library, and the working languages are Spanish and English.

The center has been bilingual since the 2005/2006 school year, and since then, it has progressively expanded the bilingual lines and the time slots dedicated to teaching in English. In Early Childhood Education, Linguistic Anticipation is applied, with one and a half hours of English per week. In Primary Education, all lines are bilingual: the areas of Physical Education, Music, and Arts are taught in English, as well as 50% of the teaching time for Environmental Knowledge, in addition to two hours of English per week. The project is complemented by the Integrated Language Curriculum (CIL) and the support of two native conversation assistants with experience in education, who reinforce the oral comprehension and expression of students at all Primary levels, mainly in non-linguistic areas.

The school library functions as a teaching and learning space, with book lending through a library card that is created at the beginning of the school year. The room can be used within an established schedule for each class, both for loans and visits, and also during recess, in this case without loans and with a teacher from the Library Team as responsible. The space has tables distributed throughout the room and a carpet with cushions, and hosts activities such as storytelling and exhibitions, as well as a computer with a projector for film screenings.
