Escola Mar Nova is a public school in Premià de Mar. It offers Early Childhood Education (second cycle, from 3 to 6 years) and Primary Education (from 6 to 12 years). It is a small school, with a single line, established as a collective project. Its size fosters a family-like and welcoming environment, where the exchange of ideas and constant collaboration are promoted. The school is understood as a small school that learns by teaching.
The educational community is participatory and is based on cooperation and mutual trust. The center opens its doors on Friday afternoons to create spaces and activities where families, students, and teachers interact and share experiences, and maintains open channels throughout the week to address questions and proposals. Families collaborate in the association, contribute furniture and games, participate in workshops, concerts, parties, gardening, and open house days, and help with DIY and painting tasks. The school holds that everyone learns from everyone and that any member of the community can teach. It incorporates restorative and resilient practices, based on the belief that people can change positively if they are supported, with principles such as creating safe spaces, giving voice, empathizing, recognizing harm, reconnecting bonds, and deciding together.
The school is experiential and takes advantage of the resources in the environment: it goes to the beach to play sports, read, draw, play, or swim; it goes to the mountains to learn about native nature; it takes trips around the town with visits to the Municipal Library and participates in activities at the Museu de l'Estampació; and collaborates with the INS of Premià de Mar to create links and bring methodologies closer. It promotes environmental commitment through gardening, recycling, reducing paper with new technologies, using lunch boxes, and promoting bicycles and scooters. It participates in the 'fruit in schools' project and in workshops on healthy habits. It addresses intellectual and emotional development, education in values, and individual and group responsibility, and advocates for an education for all that fosters equality and social cohesion. As a training school, it hosts students from teaching programs, vocational training, and high school, generating a circle of training and mutual cooperation.
