About the school

IES Palomeras-Vallecas is a public secondary school located in the Villa de Vallecas district of Madrid. It offers compulsory secondary education (ESO), Bachillerato (upper secondary, ages 16–18), basic vocational training (FP), and intermediate and higher vocational training cycles, the latter with both day and evening shifts. Instruction is provided in Spanish, with English and French among the languages offered, and the school has a cafeteria and extracurricular activities, as well as a library and an auditorium, where welcome sessions for students are held at the beginning of the school year.

The school has a Coexistence Team that organizes the cultural week. As part of this, the Technology Department held the I Robotics Fair, where students from 3rd and 4th ESO and 1st Bachillerato presented their projects to 1st and 2nd ESO peers, teachers, families, and visitors. Among the projects presented were communication devices, environmental parameter meters, CO2 measurement in fermentations, inclusive bracelets, smart recycling, an environmental conditioner, and a smart home. The exhibition also included a SUMOBOT tournament. Some of these initiatives were developed in collaboration with the Public Special Education Center of Vallecas, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and departments of the institute itself.

The educational project of the center includes the goal of providing education for all. In this line, a sensitization day on disability was held, in which students from basic vocational training cycles and the Educational Compensation Classroom Nuevas Palomeras, attached to the center, participated along with students and teachers from the Rey Juan Carlos University, who conducted dynamics to understand the reality of people with disabilities. The center also participates in the ACCEDE program for textbook loans, which are delivered at the library.
