About the school

C.E.I.P. La Latina is a public center for Early Childhood and Primary Education located in Madrid, in the Latina district. It offers the second cycle of Early Childhood Education for children aged 3 to 6 years, and Primary Education for ages 6 to 12, in Spanish with English. In the Primary stage, students are divided into twelve classrooms, two for each level, and the faculty includes teachers specialized in English, Physical Education, and music, as well as staff for therapeutic pedagogy and hearing and language for students with special educational needs.

The center is a preferred school for students with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) and has the "Aula de los Cascabeles," a pioneering resource in Madrid when it opened. This classroom works with a specific methodology for students with PDD, providing individualized support, intensive throughout the day, and generalized across all areas. In the early years, students spend more time in this classroom and less in their reference classroom, and that time is gradually invested as they progress in their schooling. Among the aspects addressed are oral, plastic, and musical languages and communication, control of repetitive behaviors and inflexibility, broadening areas of interest, social relationships with peers and adults, and daily life activities that promote autonomy, such as mobility, play, dining, hygiene, and academic tasks.

Among its educational premises are inclusion and respect for diversity, peaceful coexistence through a dialogued and preventive model, the development of positive habits and attitudes for intellectual and emotional work, and responsibility and respect towards people and things. The project is supported by active methodologies, mainly cooperative learning, and the use of various technological tools. The center has a dining service and an AMPA, and develops a program for lending textbooks and teaching materials, as well as lunch and breakfast aids.
