About the school

Montiba is a private center in Barcelona, located in the Horta-Guinardó district, in the vicinity of Tibidabo, presenting itself as a new educational proposal in the city. It offers early childhood education (first and second cycle), primary education, compulsory secondary education (ESO), and Bachillerato (upper secondary, ages 16–18), the latter stage expected to be implemented in September 2027. The project is secular and coeducational. Among its services and facilities are a cafeteria, school transport, extracurricular activities, a sports complex, an athletics track, and a laboratory.

The center adopts the pedagogy of Colegio Madrid and proposes a humanistic, critical, creative, and respectful approach, aimed at the integral and personalized development of each student. It gives equal importance to the humanities, sciences, and arts, and works to show the interconnection between subjects, so that students think for themselves and relate and build their own ideas. It does not use textbooks: students create their own materials from their notes, which involves planning, organization, and active listening. Memorization is valued as a supportive tool, but understanding and a critical attitude are sought over simple repetition.

Language teaching is personalized, respecting the family language and promoting multilingualism: English is introduced from P3 with daily classes in small groups, and French is incorporated in the first year of ESO. Literacy is worked on at the age of six, with the goal of understanding rather than mechanizing reading. In mathematics, manipulation and representation are the starting points before advancing to abstraction, with attention to problem-solving, logic, and computational language, respecting each student's pace. Evaluation is qualitative and continuous, understood as a personalized process and not as a final control. Technology is used occasionally, especially from secondary education onwards, while in early childhood and primary education, learning is experimental with little use of devices. The center dedicates one hour daily to physical training and works on oral expression through debates, presentations, and theater. It also addresses coexistence and respect towards peers, adults, the environment, and oneself, prioritizing the emotional stability of the student. Learning is supported by selected cultural references and contact with established authors.
