Waldorf Steiner

The Waldorf-Steiner Rosa de Abril early childhood education center is a private school in Barcelona that was established in 1991 by a group of families and teachers. Its offerings cover the early childhood education stage and follow Waldorf pedagogy. The space is designed as a welcoming environment that evokes a family home, where the toys and classroom layout allow children to develop free and creative play, which is the foundation for later learning, and have at hand the necessary elements to unleash their creativity and imagination.

The pedagogical proposal includes artistic and manual activities adapted to age and developmental stage, such as watercolor painting, modeling with wax, crayon drawing, bread making, and eurhythmics, along with manual activities linked to the seasons and popular festivals. Storytelling and puppet representation are also practiced during moments of concentration and tranquility. The center organizes a daily, weekly, and annual rhythm: throughout the day, activities of expansion and concentration alternate, both individual and group, within the classroom and in the garden, while the annual rhythm follows the changes of the seasons and the traditional festivals of Catalonia. Education is supported by the child's natural capacity for imitation.

Regarding food, an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet is offered, prepared with organic ingredients, without processed foods or additives, taking care of both the preparation and the calm and collected atmosphere of meals. The center maintains a close relationship with families and offers conferences, courses, seminars, working groups on the art of education, and artistic and manual workshops. The vehicular language is Catalan, and the different languages brought by the children are welcomed as an element of linguistic richness and diversity.
